BRIT legend Robbie Williams announced as ‘Album Icon’ for NATIONAL ALBUM DAY’S CELEBRATION OF ICONIC ALBUMS

Robbie Williams – the most decorated artist in BRIT Awards history (18 awards including BRIT Icon) and in the UK’s Official Charts (16 No.1 albums) – is the latest superstar artist to be announced as an Album Champion for National Album Day on 17th October, which this year has taken as its theme, “Icons”.

In recognition of his exceptional achievements as an albums artist, Robbie’s ambassadorial role will be honoured with the title Album Icon.  Robbie joins the previously announced PinkPantheress, Max Richter CBE, and Melanie C as passionate advocates of the cultural importance of the album format.

Album Icon for National Album Day 2026, Robbie Williams, said: ”Ask any artist, albums still matter... That's why I’m happy to be part of this year's National Album Day celebrating the art of the album, and just how important they are... AND speaking of albums - they're re-issuing one of mine, you might know it.. 'Sing When You're Winning.”

To mark National Album Day 2026, Universal Music Recordings and Island Records with Robbie are reissuing Robbie Williams' third studio album, Sing When You're Winning, as a limited-edition 2LP red/blue vinyl set. Featuring classic singles including Rock DJ, Supreme, Kids (with Kylie Minogue), this will be the first time this iconic album has been reissued on vinyl, as well as its first-ever release on coloured vinyl. As with the original version, the 2LPs will play at 45 RPM.  See Notes. This release will be available to pre-order from all participating retail outlets from 6th October 2026.

Robbie Williams is a true British icon who has blazed a trail for over three decades: a celebrated songwriter and powerful live performer, a record-breaking recording artist, and philanthropist. He is one of the most successful artists in the world with 90m album sales, six of the Top 100 best-selling albums in UK history and 16 No.1 albums. Today’s champion announcement follows the confirmation of the first three Album Champions – BRIT Award-winner and Grammy nominated PinkPantheress, Oscar-nominated composer and one of the most influential and acclaimed musical voices of his generation, Max Richter CBE, and singer-songwriter and pop phenomenon, former Spice Girls member, Melanie C.

A spokesperson for National Album Day, said: “We are as delighted as we are honoured that Robbie has accepted our invitation to champion the album format and support National Album Day, this year celebrating iconic artists and their albums. He is an undoubted music icon and adds his powerful voice to other major artists advocating for the cultural importance of the album format.”

From The Beatles to David Bowie, Oasis to Spice Girls, Jazzie B to Little Simz, and Lola Young to Raye, music icons transcend the charts, genres, and generations; shaping popular culture, inspiring future talent and global audiences, and defining the sound and identity of their era. This year’s theme follows last year’s Rock theme and earlier editions of National Album Day that have, among other themes, focused on the albums of the Nineties, Women in Music, Debut Albums, and Great British Groups.

National Album Day celebrates the “art of the album” and an artform beloved of fans and of artists who share their personal stories through it. The day, which is supported by Album Champions and with exclusive product released, encourages album discovery and listening, especially among an engaged, younger audience. It also reinforces the enduring importance of the format at the heart of today’s diverse music ecosystem. Watch this space for this year’s product announcement soon!

This year’s National Album Day, the ninth edition since the event launched in 2018, is once again presented in association with BBC Radio 2. The event is supported across the station and BBC Sounds.

National Album Day is organised jointly by the BPI – the UK association of record companies and independent labels (BRIT Awards and Mercury Prize), and ERA, the digital entertainment and retail association (Record Store Day). National Album Day sees the music community come together to celebrate and promote the art of the album and will pay tribute to artists who tell their stories behind these significant and influential bodies of work.

This year, National Album Day also welcomes the backing of Official Supporters – Cherry Red Records, DP World, Official Charts, PPL, Proper Music, and Trapeze Music.

This valued commitment comes alongside that of the UK’s record labels, who will release new or reissue classic albums exclusively for the day, the music retail community – in the high street and online, album platforms including Classic Album Sundays, and the wider music industry.
