The extraordinary array of talent joining Bill on Stone Alone is a “Who’s Who” of ‘70s Rock, and includes Van Morrison on saxophone, keyboards from Dr John, and from Al Kooper (Bob Dylan / Blood Sweat & Tears), additional brass from Steve “The Doctor” Kupa, Lenny Pickett, Mic Gillette and Emilio Castillo (Tower Of Power), backing vocals from Bonnie and Ruth Pointer (The Pointer Sisters), drums from Dallas Taylor (Crosby, Stills & Nash) and Jim Keltner (George Harrison), guitar from Bob Welch (Fleetwood Mac), plus Bill’s Rolling Stones’ bandmates, guitarist Ronnie Wood, and pianist Nicky Hopkins.

Raw and dark, and drenched in deep emotion 💙 ‘Blue’ by The Mission returns for this year’s National Album Day on October 18th – reissued on stunning ‘Drown In Blue’ vinyl through Demon Music Group

Originally released in 1996, the sixth studio album from The Mission saw the band in roaring form producing what many consider to be the sonically and lyrically rawest release in their entire oeuvre… but only frontman and chief songwriter Wayne Hussey knew it would be their last.

While touring ‘Blue’ at the end of 1996 he sensationally stunned fans by announcing that the band were to be dissolved. While The Mission did rise again, phoenix-like, three years later, ‘Blue’ represented the closing of Chapter 1 of the band’s story.

Mostly written and composed in the city of Bath and recorded in Bristol, ‘Blue’ produced a thunderous single with the gripping ‘Coming Home’ and boasted other highlights such as ‘That Tears Shall Drown The Wind’ and ‘Drown In Blue’.

For this year’s National Album Day ‘Coming Home’s B-sides ‘Perfect Sunrise’ and ‘Coming Home (Godlike Version)’ have been added to the track-list on vinyl for the first time. It also comes pressed on a suitably moody ‘Drown In Blue’ blend effect vinyl.

Electric boogie, cosmic swagger 🕺 ‘Bolan’s Zip Gun’ by T.Rex blasts back onto vinyl through Demon Music Group for this year’s National Album Day on October 18th – reissued and ready to ride again.

Landing smack-bang in the middle of the ‘70s – the decade, lest we forget,  Marc Bolan and T. Rex had helped officially kick off in 1970 with ‘Ride A White Swan’ – the album, with its mix of space-age soul and hypnotic rock ‘n’ roll repetition originally confused some critics but has since come to be regarded as something of a hidden gem. As usual, Marc knew which way the wind was blowing and ‘Bolan’s Zip Gun’ both pays tribute to the glorious American R&B and funk that so dominated the era and anticipates Britain’s punk revolution just around the corner. Not for nothing did Siouxsie Sioux once nominate the frenetic ‘Think Zinc’ as one of her favourite records.

An album highlight, ‘Think Zinc’ became a single in Germany only but ‘Bolan’s Zip Gun’ did produce two further classic T. Rex singles in ‘Light Of Love’ and ‘Zip Gun Boogie’. With Dino Dines added to the band’s line up on keyboards, and Marc’s soul singer girlfriend Gloria Jones now a permanent member on backing vocals and clavinet, the album represented a huge leap forward in the T. Rex sound.

The sleeve artwork was the fourth album cover for T.Rex by Grammy award-winning design maestro John Kosh, who created a distinctive peek-a-boo die-cut design. For the first time as a vinyl reissue, this has been replicated. It also comes in “Bug Glasses Baby Blue” vinyl to reflect the distinctive glasses Bolan wears on the reverse of the sleeve.
