THE GRYPHON UNVEILS NEW NATIONAL ALBUM DAY MURAL IN BRISTOL’S METAL QUARTER
Bristol’s legendary Metal Quarter has a new landmark. The winning mural by artist and musician Brandon Burch has been installed on the side of The Gryphon, one of the city’s most iconic rock venues, following a National Album Day competition last year.
The completed mural brings to life the winning design from the National Album Day Mural Competition, which celebrates the spirit of rock and the album as an art form. The competition drew dozens of submissions from emerging and established artists across the UK. The final piece was painted by artist Seán Whelan, with Brandon Burch’s etching-inspired artwork brought to full scale in partnership with Black City Records.
With Bristol’s rock and metal scene continuing to grow – and the area increasingly recognised as the Bristol Metal Quarter – the mural is now up and available to view, for fans to enjoy for many years to come.
Brandon Burch, mural designer, said: “It’s genuinely a dream come true to see my artwork on the side of The Gryphon. Being part of the Bristol Metal Quarter is thrilling. Huge thanks to John at The Gryphon and David at Black City Records for their support. National Album Day is so important - buy records, support local businesses, and keep the album format alive!”
John Ashby, Owner of The Gryphon, added: “Brandon's design embodies the real spirit of the Bristol Metal Quarter, with an original, bold idea that pays tribute to subtle rock references in a unique image. With so many talented artists in the mix, it was difficult to narrow down, but Brandon's work now adds another iconic scene we hope becomes instantly recognisable in the Bristol Metal Quarter. Long live Rock’n’roll.”
The mural’s completion is part of National Album Day’s ongoing mission to champion albums, artists, and the communities that support them. Behind-the-scenes footage and images of the mural are being shared across National Album Day social channels.
